A selection of pages from the 2 sketchbooks I filled while traveling in Vienna, Austria.
While studying in Vienna in 2010, we were all strongly encouraged to keep our sketchbooks handy at all times to catch anything that caught our fancy with our pens and pencils. As such, I ended up with an elaborate day by day documentation of the entire trip, during which I focused largely on buildings, architecture, and drawing straight lines.
We also went from one design studio to another throughout the country. During these visits, the designers imparted a lot of their tips, tricks, and philosophies, which all had a big impact on the way we approached our future projects.
Not only did these two sketchbooks document a great experience, but are also wonderful sources of inspiration when I feel I’ve hit a creative low. I’ll pull them out to flip through if I need to remind myself of what I’m capable of, and what great European Design has done.
